Air Pollution in Delhi: Should Fire Crackers to be blamed?
Hey there, what's up? Welcome to the new blog. Today we will be discussing an issue that rises in Delhi around the month of October-November. This is the issue of air pollution; this leads to the worst air quality in Delhi. Around October and November, Diwali (a festival of lights) is celebrated across the whole nation. In this festival, the people burn firecrackers, and people across the nation blame firecrackers for the air pollution. Does only burning firecrackers lead to bad air quality? Let's find out in this blog.
Delhi is the capital of India and one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it has so many historic monuments to go to, and it is also an advanced city. However, around late October to mid-November, Delhi's air quality becomes the worst to stay in; people discover it more difficult to respire because there is smog all around Delhi’s sky. People blame firecrackers for the bad AQI, but is it right to blame simply the firecrackers? Let's first find out the causes of air pollution and then find out how much do firecrackers add to the pollution.
The causes of air pollution are:
Crop burning within the neighbor states: This is one of the main reasons for air pollution because it is estimated that approximately 35 million tonnes of the crop are set afire by these states. The wind carries all the pollutants and dust particles, which have got locked in the air.
Vehicular Emission: Vehicular Emission consists of the pollutants a vehicle emits when there is internal combustion, this simply means that the pollution spread by the vehicle adds to the bad AQI because vehicles are always running on the road every day to every week, every week to every month and every month to every year.
Over Population: It is also one of the factors of pollution (any sort of pollution) since there are more people and the usage of resources will be more and as a result, there will be more pollution.
More Non-Public Vehicles on Road: This is one of the factors that people should keep in mind that they should use more public vehicles and less of their private vehicles.
Large Construction Works: This is also one of the works which are continually going through the city.
Industrial Pollution: The industries are always running and as they are running, they spread a large amount of air pollution.
Fire Crackers: There is a ban every year on firecrackers but they're always seen on Diwali.
I’ve indexed many reasons/ causes of air pollution in Delhi, now what do you think is the reason for pollution? Is it just the firecrackers? Here I assume no, firecrackers are not the only ones to be answerable for the pollution. I want to share what I feel, see as we realize firecrackers are mostly banned around Diwali, but it doesn’t affect people due to the fact people get these, I don't understand how do they get it but they get it, and on Diwali, you will hear firecrackers all day and after one to two days, smog appears in the sky. Hence, people think that the main reason is firecrackers. As firecrackers are banned however people are burning them so it shouldn't be done and additionally people burn firecrackers but do you think is there any use of it? This is also few people assume, if there is no use of firecrackers then we shouldn't burn them as they are very harmful to both humans and environment and they spread numerous metals in the air and we are burning firecrackers for simply our amusement, this is where people neglect about all of the other causes of air pollution and especially focus on firecrackers.
This was all about this problem now let’s discuss some solutions to this problem of air pollution:
We should prevent ourselves to go out during the early morning and evening hours due to severe levels of air pollution.
If there is some important or urgent work then only we should go out and during a sunny day.
If you have respiration issues then you should prevent going out.
Kids should also prevent going out.
We should drink a good quantity of water and also prevent from burning garbage and the people who smoke must also prevent smoking.
We should prevent workout in an open area because we will be breathing harmful pollutants.
We can also use air purifiers inside our homes.
At the end of the blog, I want to conclude that all of the causes of air pollution should be answerable for the bad AQI and we shouldn’t simply just focus on one cause. I sense that firecrackers are just burst for fun and our satisfaction, so if you can prevent using firecrackers then it is the best but if you cannot fully prevent burning firecrackers then please use green crackers or use them at a limit because if we cannot grow a tree for the nature then why should we mix metals and harmful gases in the air. The AQI is reaching 499, see we stay in our houses and we have a mask to prevent harmful pollutants to get inside but think of the poor people who cannot afford mask or the people who don't have houses and have to live on roadsides, they are directly taking the pollutants inside, did they burn crackers? No, they didn't burn crackers, and nor they could enjoy burning firecrackers but they are taking in harmful pollutants. When it comes to vehicles, then I will always suggest that people should prefer more public transport. People should also turn off the engines of their vehicles on the red light. I think we should follow the scheme of ODD-EVEN at least for one week per month because it will help in decreasing pollution that is spread by vehicles. Crop burning needs to be prevented and I found that there is an alternative to it which is Bio Enzyme-PUSA: The Indian Agriculture Research Institute has devised a radical solution for stubble burning in the form of a bio-enzyme called PUSA. When sprayed, this enzyme decomposes the stubble in 20-25 days, turning it into manure, further improving the soil quality (from Google).
This was all I wanted to say about air pollution. Here, I don't want to say that people shouldn't burn firecrackers; I just wanted to say that if we will do something within a limit then it wouldn't affect us, and also we should only use green crackers because green crackers are allowed from govt. There are more remedies we can think of like we can stop the construction work for one or two days per week, we can turn off the engines of our vehicles at the red light, there can be more remedies, we just need to think and apply in our lives because we have to make earth a safer place to live in. We should always try and grow a plant and we should take care of it because if every person will plant a tree then our city and country and the world would be greener and environmentally friendly.
